Pears: A Simple Fruit With Powerful Benefits
Sweet, juicy, and satisfying, pears have been enjoyed since ancient times – and for good reason. They’re rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can support seniors’ health in surprising ways. According to Healthline, pears are especially beneficial for digestion, heart health, and weight management.
Here are some of the biggest health perks of adding pears to your diet:
- Rich in fiber – One medium pear has about 6 grams of fiber, promoting healthy digestion and helping regulate blood sugar.
- Supports heart health – Pears contain antioxidants like quercetin that may lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
- Anti-inflammatory properties – Flavonoids in pears may help reduce chronic inflammation, lowering the risk of diabetes and heart disease.
- Weight management – Low in calories and high in water and fiber, pears help you feel full without overeating.
- Diabetes-friendly – Pears are low on the glycemic index, meaning they don’t cause sharp blood sugar spikes.
