Slip, Slide & Smiles – Senior Star Elmore Place

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The sun was warm, the laughter was loud, and the smiles were impossible to miss. At Senior Star at Elmore Place, residents gathered for a summer tradition that’s equal parts fun and fearless: the annual slip & slide.

For Tammie Diven, it was more than just a ride down a slick, soapy path. It was a moment of connection, with friends cheering her on and a small, fluffy passenger named Stella perched on her lap.

I was lucky enough to go down the water slide,” Tammie said, smiling. “And the little puppy Stella wanted to sit on my lap the whole way.”

Community Relations Director Haley Flenker has seen it before: the hesitation, the uncertainty, and then the transformation.

We really love to create these special moments for our residents,” she shared. “We’ll have residents say, ‘No, I don’t think I can do it,’ and then they do. And when they do, they have a blast.”

For families, these moments are more than entertainment, they’re reassurance. In every splash and every cheer from the crowd, there’s proof that life here isn’t about slowing down, it’s about leaning in. It’s about friendships that make you braver, activities that keep you moving, and the kind of shared joy that keeps you feeling young.

At Senior Star, events like this are carefully planned so residents can participate safely while still embracing the thrill of trying something new. The slip & slide isn’t just a summer favorite, it’s a celebration of possibility, a reminder that every day can hold a little magic.

And as the last of the day’s slides sent another round of water spraying into the summer air, one thing was certain: at Senior Star, age may add wisdom, but it never takes away your sense of adventure.
