Celebrating World Alzheimer’s Month 2024: Senior Star’s Commitment to Memory Care and Philanthropy

Each September, the world unites to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, challenging the stigma that persists around these conditions. World Alzheimer’s Month 2024 focuses on the theme “Time to Act on Dementia, Time to Act on Alzheimer’s.” This global campaign emphasizes changing attitudes toward dementia and addressing the discrimination and stigma that still exists. The campaign also highlights the positive steps being taken by organizations and governments worldwide to create a more dementia-friendly society.

A key part of this effort is educating the public. According to the 2019 World Alzheimer Report, a significant portion of healthcare practitioners and the general public still wrongly believes that dementia is a normal part of aging. This misconception underscores the importance of World Alzheimer’s Month in changing perceptions and increasing public knowledge about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Senior Star’s Commitment to World Alzheimer’s Month

At Senior Star, we are dedicated to making a positive impact in the local communities where our residents live while also influencing the broader Aging Services industry. Our teams are committed to causes that affect seniors and their families worldwide, and this commitment is reflected in our ongoing support for the Alzheimer’s Association.

To date, Senior Star has raised over $6 million to support the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. These funds provide hope to millions of families as we continue to pursue our nation’s goal: to prevent and effectively treat Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias by 2025.

Memory Support & Care at Senior Star

We understand that memory care for those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia requires a personalized approach. At Senior Star, our team of trained professionals takes the time to truly get to know your loved one, understanding who they are and the life they have lived. We believe that every resident deserves a loving, individualized, person-centered care plan tailored just for them.

What is Memory Support?

At Senior Star, we strive to give your loved one a sense of purpose each and every day. Alzheimer’s disease and dementia may take much away, but behind the condition is a person with a story, skills, and a purpose that needs nurturing. Our Memory Care focuses on the individuality of each resident, helping them experience meaning and joy daily. Our dedicated associates work tirelessly to spark moments and connections that make your loved one’s world feel bigger and more fulfilling.

The Senior Star Memory Support Process

We believe that your loved one should be known and valued. Their care must be as unique as they are, which can only happen when caregivers truly know them. What did they do for a living? What are their passions, hobbies and interests? By partnering with you and forming genuine relationships with your loved one, we can create a personal care plan that not only supports their needs but also honors who they are.

Our adaptable Memory Support program includes:

  • Destination Stations®: Interactive environments that reflect life experiences, hobbies, and interests, providing a sense of comfort and familiarity.
  • Snoezelen® Multi-Sensory Environments: Spaces designed to stimulate the senses and promote relaxation.
  • Dakim® BrainFitness Software: Cognitive exercises that help maintain mental acuity.
  • Music & Memory: Personalized music playlists that can evoke memories and improve quality of life.
  • Lucynt Magic Table: Interactive light projections that encourage physical and cognitive activity.
