Beyond the Headlines: What’s Actually Happening in Senior Star Communities

Though our country is in the midst of significant challenges, there is a silver lining for our resilient nation. Families and neighbors have found new ways to rekindle communal connection, people are weathering physical distance through video calls and virtual hangouts, and entire cities are banding together to express support and gratitude for our courageous healthcare workers.

Despite this optimism, the fact remains: seniors are extremely vulnerable to this virus, and as a result, there are indeed stories of senior living communities dealing with outbreaks. You can’t help but see the headlines, but it is important to know that these affected communities only make up a fraction of those across the nation. While we still have innumerable challenges to overcome, we should not forget the positive, heartwarming stories that many senior living communities are creating each day.

Senior Star has been among those communities who have met recent obstacles with bold optimism, industry know-how and a profound dedication to residents and their families. We are taking extraordinary measures to keep residents and employees out of harm’s way. Our leadership team swiftly developed safety protocols and practices supported by the diligent work of Senior Star associates, our heroes. We firmly believe that the only way COVID-19 is getting into our community is through the front doors, and we’ve taken extraordinary steps to ensure it does not.

We’re all in this together, and together we will get through this.

It’s important to mention that alongside our more stringent safety measures, we remain equally committed to the Senior Star Difference – to provide excellent support and do for each other with love. One of the best parts of our job is helping each resident lead their best life, and create moments that are truly joyful. We continue to modify our existing Signature Programs – like Laughter Yoga – to make it safe for residents to still get the exercise and engagement they need. And we make sure to keep them connected with friends and families through technology and social-distancing events, like drive-through parades and window visits from therapy dogs (and even a horse or two!). More residents than ever are learning how to use the video chat services available at our Lifelong Learning Centers or on available community iPads to connect with family the world over, and resident pets are getting more attention than ever.

While much is unclear right now, one thing is for certain: your loved ones are Safer at Senior Star. Not only are our communities following diligent safety protocols, our team of difference makers has also committed to maintaining a safe and cautious lifestyle to ensure that they stay healthy and that our residents stay safe. Our response team continues to meet frequently to assess new information and make proactive changes as necessary to stay current and safeguard our entire Senior Star family.
