Creative Writing Corner – featuring Phyllis Rubinstein
Each week, many of our residents meet for our Creative Writing Group. The class offers residents the opportunity to flex their writing muscles in a fun, supportive environment. This week, we’re highlighting a poem by Phyllis Rubinstein written in honor of last year’s Super Bowl.
An Old Lady’s Super Bowl: 2017
By Phyllis Rubinstein
Hearing Aids in
Both of them working
Now you Patriots
Gotta get perkin’!
The Falcons are making Atlanta fans proud
The crowd is exploding
And screaming out loud
New England fans quiet
With each Brady sack
I’m thinking, no way
They can ever come back
Half time is here
Lady Gaga is dancing
I fill the bowl with more pretzels and chips
The pop is about to taste
Sweet on my lips
Two teams are returning
One Red and one white
Each ready for battle
Each ready to fight
News broadcasters have no hope
All giving up on this New England bunch
But they didn’t know that I have a hunch
This wonderful team would give all they could
You bet that they won just as I said they would
Confetti rained down, perhaps too much
Officials came up to claim honor and such
The trophy was big
The trophy was shiny
Each player kissed it
As it proudly passed them by
I bet on New England
I counted on Brady
But then, what did I know?
I’m just an old lady.
