New App Another Tool to Support Alzheimer’s Patients

14-year-old Emma Yang is developing a smartphone app to help people with Alzheimer’s better recognize their friends and family. The app uses facial recognition software to tell the user who each person in the image is and how they’re related. The app also includes a “reminders” page with daily appointments, a “me” page with general information about the user, and access to the smartphone’s contacts.

This new technology is just one of the tools that can help Alzheimer’s patients manage their symptoms. At The Kenwood by Senior Star, our staff uses a variety of memory care programs, including Dakim® BrainFitness software, the Snoezelen® Room and Destination Stations®, to support our memory care patients. Earlier this year, we even launched a fidget spinner program, and the tool was popular among residents. Many used the spinners to help them fall asleep, lessen their anxiety or prevent nighttime wandering.
