The Kenwood Commemorates The Longest Day by Rocking Around the Clock

Summer is nearly here and The Kenwood is putting a spin on rocking around the clock during The Longest Day on Wednesday, June 21.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, over 15 million unpaid caregivers provided 18.2 billion hours of unpaid care in 2016. The Longest Day, which was created by the Alzheimer’s Association, recognizes the summer solstice, but more importantly the caregivers that continually provide support for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. The Alzheimer’s Association encourages advocates to participate in an enjoyable activity all day long, whether it’s something they love themselves or one adored by a loved one experiencing the disease. It all comes back to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease, while honoring caregivers.

For the sixth year in a row, The Kenwood is one of many organizations throughout the United States participating in the event. During the day, staff, residents, family and friends will rock in rocking chairs in 30-minute increments from sunrise to sunset, or 15 hours total, at The Kenwood. Participants can also join The Kenwood for other events throughout the day including a picnic lunch, bake sale and musical performance by Lower London Street Dixie Land Band. Event proceeds will go toward fundraising efforts for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which takes place at Sawyer Point on Saturday, October 7, 2017.
