Leaving the House Shown to Increase Seniors’ Longevity

A recent study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society showed that leaving the house increases longevity in older adults. The study looked at participants in their 70s, 80s and 90s and determined that simply getting out of the house increased the likelihood a person would live to their next age milestone. Even participants with medical and mobility issues experienced the same benefits, indicating that it wasn’t movement but engagement with the world that linked to increased longevity.

At The Kenwood by Senior Star, we provide ample opportunities for residents to leave their apartments and interact with others and the environment. Our range of programs includes educational, fitness and social activities, clubs and outings. Some of our favorites that promote socialization include:Dance class at The Kenwood by Senior Star

  • Dance Class with Mary – where residents will have fun tangoing, waltzing and more
  • The Conversation Group – a weekly opportunity to bond with other Senior Stars by discussing current news, a great book and a variety of other topics
  • Friday Happy Hour – a place to catch up with friends while enjoying a refreshing drink (alcoholic and nonalcoholic options available)

We understand how important it is for our residents to have opportunities to socialize, better their health or simply enjoy time outside of their apartment, and we’re happy to create programs to fit the needs of all of our residents.
